Own Kind of Beautiful Retro Tag

This Retro Style Tag came together from a happy accident.

I cut the oversized tag from recycled thick white card
following the dimensions of a size 10 tag in my stash.
But made this one larger.  Measuring 12 cm x 23 cm

I gave the tag two coats of white gesso to basecoat,
followed by a layer of yellow acrylic paint 50:50 mixed with water.
It was so bright I immediately rubbed the surface back with a moist baby wipe
to soften the effect rubbing most of the colour away.
Light modelling paste was applied through a Tim Holtz Bubble stencil
randomly in three places.

I then lightly rubbed the surface with Distress Paint Dabbers in
Peeled Paint, Weathered Wood, & Vintage Photo.
concentrating mostly over the stencilled areas.

Distress Crayons were also applied & blended
with a moist finger tip to add more shadow & dimension.
Colours used were Stormy Sky, Iced Spruce, Vintage Photo & Peacock Feathers.

I then experimented with the arrangement of various Paper Rose diecuts,
stamps & the focal point for my design.

Random stamping with the same Mixed media stamp set & Vintage Letter Stamp set
using Cobalt & Vintage Sepia Archival Inks gave more texture to the background.

The Circles and Rings I had previously punched from watercolour paper
coloured with Mermaid Lagoon & Wild Honey Distress Spray/Oxide inks
& white heat embossed using the Mixed Media & Vintage Letter Stamps sets.

The rest of the layers came together from Paper Rose Die Cut pieces in my stash like the
Madison Lace die used on the bottom, the Leaf 1 & Layered Circlet 1 dies.

The sentiment stamp is from the Beautiful Mandala stamp set using Black Archival Ink,
& the 'happy' is from the Poppies stamp set.

Love this Tim Holtz Photo Booth picture.
Retro horn rim glasses remind me of the 60's.
I tore a Tim Holtz Sizzix film strip die cut into pieces to frame the photo.
Layers blended by shading with Aquarelle pencil & waterbrush
as well as more Peacock Feathers Distress Crayon.

White Ink Splatters & a black eyelet inserted to complete this tag.
This tag makes me smile as it reminds me of my MUM
& photos of her in this era.

Hope you enjoy my take on a Retro Tag too.
Cheers for now,   Deb
