Mixed Media Stamped Cards

Sharing today these bright & colourful cards featuring the new Mixed Media Stamp sets,
& Die Cuts from Paper Rose.

I made the backgrounds of my cards using 6 x 6 " thick white cardstock as the base
to print on with my Gell Press Plate & Dina Wakley Acrylic Paints.
I started with a mix of light colours for the base then built up layers
with darker & contrasting colours.
I used the Mixed Media stamps to take colour off the plate before I pulled my print.
I added back the same stamps in contrasting colours randomly after pulling the initial print.
Repeating the same patterns in various ways adds depth & continuity.

Other textures applied with bubble wrap, mesh, & paint splatters.
Asemic marks & writing with white & black acrylic pens.
I like that the white pen soaked up some of the surrounding colours.

The busy backgrounds are completed by adding the bold focal points
of the
Scribble Hearts Die cuts & Cog Frame Die cuts
in Black, White & Kraft.
No sentiments required so they could be used for lots of occasions or purposes.
Trimmed & mounted on Black or Kraft 6 x 6" folded cards.

Some great videos already exist that will help explain this process.
I will link to some I really find helpful from Birgit Koopsen & Kate Crane

Hope you enjoy trying out some gelli printing & mixed media layering.
It is very addictive & fun.

Cheers   DEB  xx

SCRAP FX Design Team Project 'OLD SCHOOL' ALBUM

Todays Project for SCRAP FX features the title Old School Chipboard piece for my Album Cover.

The Chipboard Title has been heat embossed with various Ranger Embossing Powders-
Cornflower Blue, Watering Can & Red Geranium over Antique Linen Crackle Paint.
These are definitely colours from my school days.

I used a full sheet of the weathered look paper on the back of the Album.
Spine covered in Sticky Back Canvas randomly stamped & distressed.

The background papers were made using a Distressed Wood Effect
by monoprinting with Acrylic paints & my Gel Press.
The printed pages were cut into strips then sewn together to give the look
of peeling paint on old wood planks.
Fabulous video by Kate Crane shows the technique I used.

The Girl images were re purposed from a gift tag I received.
Most other ephemera was from my Tim Holtz collections.

Thanks for taking the time to read

SCRAP FX Design Team Faux Metal Steampunk Birthday card

Hi There
Wanted to share this huge card I made for my son's recent 18th Birthday.
It was used for his friends to write messages to him on the night of his party!
Firstly we are happy to have survived our 3rd child's 18th celebration
with only a few minor mishaps!

The 'card' base is recycled from heavy white card packaging from my work
(I am a Theatre Nurse, we are always trying to repurpose or recycle where we can)
It measures 40 x 26.5 cm, with the front cover slightly smaller than the back.

I made a feature of this by applying copper adhesive metal to the edge of the back page
pre embossed with a Tim Holtz Texture fade.

The front page was covered with silver adhesive metal sheets
embossed with Tim Holtz Texture fades through my Big shot machine.
A black distress paint dabber was rubbed over surface then buffed off
bringing out the embossed texture.

A happy accident occurred when I ran some sheets through the 'gears'
embossing folder first, then through the 'riveted' folder.
This flattened out the gears pattern leaving a really cool extra texture
that was highlighted by the paint layer.  As you can see above.

Huge Grunge board letters from Tim Holtz & chipboard gears & chains from SCRAP FX
coloured with black & copper metallic paint dabbers
& applied with 3D matte gel medium.

The back of the card was covered with a distress patterned cardstock to suit the theme.

I love making keepsakes out of items that would otherwise be thrown away.

Till next time...Keep Creating!        Cheers      Deb

MOROCCAN SQUARE LAYERED CARDS

for Paper Rose Design Team

Today I wanted to share these cards I made featuring the beautiful Moroccan Square Die
from Paper Rose.
All of the colours on these cards were made using Mica sprays on recycled card or packaging.
The various surfaces gave some really cool effects.

On some surfaces the spray remained a bit sticky. Over these I rubbed a gold foil sheet
which stuck to the surface forming random highlights.
Hard to photograph. Example in this card above.
I wanted a mosaic effect, so I die cut multiple mica sprayed colours & white card layers.

I glued two layers of the white outline together with liquid adhesive to a flat base layer.
I inlaid the colour pieces like a jigsaw using the same adhesive.

Clear Crackle Accents was applied to some of the infill spaces, giving a unique texture.

Layered sentiment die cuts were cut out of matching colours
making the only other decoration needed on these cards.

I created more interest by angling the die cut in various ways on the card,
& by adding an extra shadow layer to the sentiments.
These die are so versatile & can be used in many ways.

Hope this inspires you to create some layers in your card making.
Cheers for now,              Deb

SWINGING TAG for Paper Rose Design Team

This Swinging Tag was  inspired by an early video made by Finnabair for Prima Marketing where two tags
were joined with washi tape to make an elegant looking wall hanging.
The solid base is made from thick cardstock covered with sticky back canvas & stamped with the vintage text stamp.

I chose to use this bright paper collection from Prima called Zephyr.
I fussy cut the flowers & ladybugs etc.
Leaves were die cut from same paper range. Edges coloured with distress ink.

I alternated lots of colours in my layers to give more interest.

The lattice piece from the stitched rectangle frame die set & the eyelets lightens the many layers.
Hope this inspires you to make some wall art from your favourite paper collection.

SCRAP FX DESIGN TEAM - STEAMPUNK CANVAS

Hi There,
I am sharing my first project for the Scrap FX Design Team featuring
their wonderful steampunk themed products of chipboard shapes, stamps & stencils.

I chose this image from an older Graphic 45 paper pack (Steampunk Debutante).
Love the way he looks flying over this moon image
previously made using my Gell Press plate & Acrylic paints.

Firstly the canvas was primed with Black Gesso & then various blue acrylic paints
applied through the Intersections Stencil for the main background on the canvas & base paper.
Also randomly stamped with the Head Circuit Stamp and Distress oxide ink on the background & the paper layers.  Textured edges of papers made with Picket fence hole punch.

Main Sentiment was coloured using Brushed Pewter & Tarnished Brass Distress Stain
(& a tiny bit of blue paint) then an application of my favourite mixture of  'dirty' Clear UTEE.
This contains fragments of  Pewter, Black & Gold UTEE mixed with mostly Clear.
It bubbles up in a very random, textured way when applied over Distress Stain.

The UTEE can also be applied using an embossing dabber as I did under the moon and in various places around the edge of the project.  Love that texture!

The ChainSteampunk Assemblage & Cogs & Wheels were heat embossed
with the UTEE mixture over metallic distress stain & black gesso.

The Fractured Time pieces around the moon were coloured in the same way.

Looking forward to sharing some more steampunk projects with you later this month.
Check out the Scrap FX Blog for more fabulous steampunk themed projects....

Hope this inspires you to use a few gears on your projects & to lay down some embossed texture.

Cheers for now,

Deb Adams
