'CRAZY BIRD' WHAT A DRIP! CARD

I have enjoyed watercolouring & diecutting lots of the original 'Crazy Bird' characters
from Tim Holtz & Stampers Anonymous.
My recent purchase of the Sizzix Bigz Pipeline die was a perfect match for this
bewildered character.
The background card was coloured with a cog stencil from Crafters Workshop
& Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
The Pipes were cut from Kraft & highlighted with Metallic distress stain,
Alcohol Ink & Black Pitt Pen.
The black cardstock was splattered with the same distress stain colours.
Soft Matte Gel Medium used as a glue.
A little different I know. You can guess the sentiment inside. It is the Title!
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Cheers Deb

DISTRESS OXIDE INK WITH KRAFT CARDSTOCK

I wanted to experiment with Distress Oxide Inks on Kraft Cardstock.

I firstly applied Broken China & Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Ink
through a Tim Holtz Flourish Stencil onto kraft cardstock.
It reminded me of an underwater scene, so I decided to make a card with that theme.

Hero Arts Stamps were used with Faded Jeans & Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Inks
for the Sea Horses, Starfish & Shells.  Some were clear heat embossed
before colouring with Distress Oxide Inks & the Water colour Brush.
The effect is quite subtle & soft.

I added interest by die cutting & layering the background with Sizzix Stitched Oval Thinlits,
& highlights & splatters of Antique Bronze Distress Stain.
The sentiment is a Sizzix Thinlit die cut from the Teal card stock
& given dimension with Glossy Accents.

The Stamped images were fussy cut & shaped slightly,
before grouping in a cluster & elevated with foam dots.
Hope you are inspired to play with these inks soon.

Cheers Deb

Distress Oxide cards with Concord & 9th Stamps/Dies & Gold Foil

I have combined some of my favourite products & techniques to create these cards below.

Wilted Violet, Faded Jeans, Broken China & Cracked Pistachio Distress oxide inks were
swiped across water colour paper using a wet acrylic block to create the background.
Concord & 9th stamps were used throughout.

The Concord & 9th Leaf die cut was from white card stock 'pre splattered'
with drops of Distress Oxide inks in multiple colours.
The Skeleton leaf stamp was applied & heat embossed with Ranger Sticky embossing powder.  Ranger gold foil sheet was quickly applied and burnished.
The same technique was used to stamp the hearts.

A collage glue stick was randomly rubbed on the edge of card then gold foil rubbed over the top.
This gives a random gilded edge to the card.   Black Pitt pen doodling done to frame the page.
The sentiment was stamped with a Tim Holtz Custom Blend of Archival ink colours
in Black Soot, Vintage Photo & Hickory Smoke, then clear heat embossed.
This has given a softer effect. Love how the foil has stuck to the page in random areas.

The card below's background is made from swiping Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade
& Fossilized Amber Distress oxide inks across water colour paper.

Concord & 9th stamps & diecuts were used with Tree Branch Archival Ink.

Layering with Clear stamped acetate over Dark Brown kraft core cardstock
was used to finish the card.

More DISTRESS OXIDE CARDS

Hi All,

I wanted to share quite a few more cards I have made using Distress Oxide Ink in various ways.

These ones feature Rainbow Backgrounds with Silhouette Die Cuts.

Watercolour paper base cut with Rectangular Stitched edge die.
Wilted Violet, Broken China, Peeled Paint, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade
& Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide inks swiped across card
using acrylic block with two colours applied at a time & spritzed with water.
Heidi Swapp & Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Dies cut from black cardstock
then clear heat embossed to give the shiny dimension.
Rest of the sentiment stamped in Black Archival ink & heat embossed using Concord & 9th stamps.

Worn Lipstick, Fossilized Amber, Peeled Paint & Broken China Distress Oxide Inks.
Stampers Anonymous Background Text stamp with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink.
Ranger Texture Paste through Tim Holtz Numbers stencil.
Tim Holtz Wildflowers Silhouette die cuts.  Sentiment cut from Sticky Back Canvas using Sizzix Thinlits Word dies.
Love how the Texture Paste absorbs some of the base colours.

Another version using Peeled Paint, Broken China & Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Ink.
Latticework Stencil & Ranger Texture paste.
Text stamping in Faded Jeans.  A little Iced Spruce rubbed over the Texture Paste.

Close up of Texture Paste.

Rainbow water coloured background swiped with wide flat brush.
Concord & 9th icecream diecut swiped with Ground Espresso Distress Ink then clear heat embossed.
White heat embossing supposed to represent melting icecream.
Sentiment Sizzix Thinlit die clear heat embossed too.

Love how vibrant these Inks are.  A real pleasure to use.
More to follow in next blog post.

DISTRESS OXIDE CARDS

Enjoyed the afternoon having my first play with the new Distress Oxide Inks.

Faded Jeans, Cracked Pistachio, Wilted Violet & Spiced Marmalade.
Text stamping Vintage Photo.

These cards above were made by applying Prima modelling paste & sand texture paste
onto Mixed Media cardstock through various stencils
& applying the colours of Distress Oxide
using techniques from Tim Holtz & Jennifer Maguire.
Sentiments made from Heidi Swapp diecuts & Tarnished Brass Distress Stain.

Distress oxides create gorgeous chalky backgrounds.
Suits silhouette stamps like these Stampers Anonymous Wendy Vecchi & Tim Holtz,
or Dina Wakeley stamps below.

Added some Fired Brick, Peeled Paint & Fossilized Amber in these examples.

Matched with gorgeous Concord & 9th Die Cuts.

Can't wait to get more of the colours.
They are selling out really fast here in Australia.
Cheers for now

MIXED MEDIA FRAME

I wanted to share this Mixed Media Framed piece
as I was so pleased with the final result.

The old chipped frame was already beautifully distressed.
I just highlighted some of the design by
rubbing with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide straight from the ink pad
& Art Alchemy Waxes (Opal Magic Vintage Silk & a little Metallique Bronze Age) applied with my finger.

Lots of layers of Prima Marketing, Finnabair & Tim Holtz ephemera were used over the coloured background created using lots of techniques.

The background was made from a piece of white cardboard,
base coated with Antique Linen Distress Paint.
Followed by layers of Distress Paint & Distress Crayons swiped up & down the surface
building up the streaky layers.
Paint colours used were Weathered Wood, Scattered Straw & more Antique Linen.   Crayons in Antique Linen & Vintage Photo were smeared with a moist finger tip.

Texture paste was applied through a Prima Stitches & Circle stencil.
The same Distress Crayons were rubbed into the dry texture paste
following the contours of the piece.

Splatters of Vintage Photo Distress Oxide & White Gesso
as well as some random text stamping added to the background layers.

It is hard to see in the photo but I also smeared Opal Magic Vintage Silk Wax
here & there to give a subtle sheen.

The Focal point cluster was mainly composed of images from a combination of
Tim Holtz & Prima Finnabair Ephemera Collections.
Vintage luggage tags, jute string, buttons & a quote from Authentique paper
were also added to the layers.
Sections of the images were coated with Distress Glazing Medium 'Crazing' to give a subtle crackled effect.
Art Stones & Mini Art Stones were used to fill some gaps in the frame.

Hope you enjoy this too.               Cheers Deb

Busy Creating not Posting

Hi All,

I Can't believe it has been a couple of months since my last post on this blog.
WARNING! I am making up for this with a really long post with lots of photos & links. BEWARE!

During those months I have actually been really busy creating for the
Hobbysew Echuca Creative Team.
Details of all the different creations are on their blog if you want to follow the link above.

Today I wanted to add pictures of some of my favourite pieces to share.
I have included links to more information as well.
Hope this will finish 2016 off nicely so I can start afresh in the New Year.
Really looking forward to what is planned for 2017.

My Creations are quite varied.  Hope they give you some inspiration & ideas.

I had lots of fun changing this plastic wine glass into a GOBLET from ANTIQUITY
using IOD Vintage Art Decor Molds & Paper Clay.
Lots of Prima products were used such as Art Stones, Gel Medium, Crackle Texture Paste & gorgeous Art Alchemy Paints which gave such a textured metallic finish.

As gifts for friends I altered some small Kraft Clipboards that I bought from an office supply store.
I called this one below the Denim Sunny Days Clipboard which features Crackle paste & Rust paste as well as Denim & Crocheted flowers shaped with Sculpture Medium.  The photo is from the 70's!!

I called the other one The Lady & the Dog Clipboard.
It was made in a similar way but has a more Antique Vintage Feel.
I added a Paper Clay element I made using an IOD mold
& Ranger Crazing Medium to age the picture.
I am sorry you will have to follow the link to see this one.
I have accidentally deleted other photos of this as it was a gift.

These layouts pictured above were started at a Prima Workshop taught by Cari Fennell
at Paperific in Melbourne August 2016.
They were finished in my own style at home.
Check out the variations on the themes by 5 different designers on the Hobbysew Blog and here also.

I also made a lot of Cards for Special Events. These are super sized!

and then a touch of Halloween (love those mini crazy birds!)
Check out my Vintage Altered Frame here for more Halloween Inspiration.

& then I got into full Xmas mode!

Gorgeous Sweet Peppermint Advent Frame made using Prima Frank Garcia Papers & embellishments.

Finally my Xmas Card Extravaganza!  These feature the Sizzix Tim Holtz Poinsettia Die.

I made so many cards that Hobbysew spread them out over 5-7 days.
These featured Graphic 45 Nutcracker Sweet papers.

Also cards featuring Gold & Silver Foiling Techniques

After finishing the Xmas cards my final Creation for 2016 was this
featuring my all time favourite images inspired by Tim Holtz.

Wishing you a wonderful creative Year in 2017
Bye for now
