Paper Rose Design Team Project

CARDS FEATURING PAPER ROSE BANNERS & STARS DIE #17664

Today I am sharing my first project for the Paper Rose Design Team.

When I received my first beautifully wrapped package from Paper Rose containing

so many lovely dies and stamps I was feeling a little overwhelmed...to say the least!  

I didn't know quite where to begin...

So I decided to just get back to basics & start making some backgrounds 

that I could use for my cards.

I pulled out lots of my spray bottles both with mica & matte finishes. 

Went crazy spraying recycled white packaging collected from previous craft purchases.

The different surfaces of the packaging absorbed colour in various ways 

making some cool effects.
A few remained sticky in some areas so on these I randomly rubbed gold foil sheets, for some WOW factor.

I have tons left over to try with other dies in my stash like these Circlet Layered dies above.
Will share what I created with those dies soon. 
But today I am featuring the Paper Rose Stars & Banners & their lovely Sentiment Dies.

One of the backgrounds stood out to me as looking like the night sky,

so I decided to combine it with the Stars & Banners Die (#17664) & Best Wishes sentiment

from the Bush Babies Accessories Clear Stamp set (#17532).

I decided to use an inlay technique to really show off that Galaxy background.

I die cut a 'Ranger' adhesive backed silver foil sheet twice so I had some extra pieces for embellishing.  
The galaxy piece was cut to 6 x 5 1/2" & the die centered & cut out of the background.
Once I attached the die cut background to the matting card it was easy to inlay the silver foil pieces like a jigsaw.

The matting card measured 6 x 5 3/4" with sparkly silver tape applied to the edges.

Slightly elevated with foam & mounted on a 6 x 6" white card. 

The sentiment was stamped in Versamark Ink then heat embossed with Silver Pearl powder.

Finished off with Liquid pearls dotted over the surface as highlights

& a few extra die cuts applied to the card front & the envelope.

I continued the Banners & Stars diecut theme for the rest of my cards.

  

Above is a very striking inlay card paired with the elegant Layered Congratulations die (#17646).  
For this card I applied double sided adhesive sheets to the coloured card before die cutting 
to allow easy application for the inlay technique.

My final card features the Banners & Stars die cuts that have been heat embossed
with Black Sparkle embossing powder to give a dimensional effect. 

The die has also been used to create an embossed impression on the white card front

by using the Sizzix Crease pad in my Big Shot Machine.

The beautiful layered die cut sentiments from Paper Rose are so effective. (#17631)

Especially as the background layer of 'Birthday' was cut from mirrored card stock.

Extra banners,  stars & the matting card were all heat embossed to match. 

These cards are elegantly simple in design, but quite a variety of techniques & products were used to create them.

Hope this inspires you to try some different techniques with your die cutting.

Dina Wakley Inspired Cards

I was recently lucky enough to attend a weekend of Dina Wakley's Classes 

during her visit to Australia.

The background artwork to these cards was made in a class called 

'Advanced Abstracts' Ordered Chaos.  

The large original art work has been cut down to form these rectangular bases.

I have simply mounted the bases on white cards...

& added appropriate die cut sentiments...

that I thought suited the artwork.

Tim Holtz sentiment stickers matched perfectly too.

Even the negative die cut looked so good with the artwork peeking through.

Tim Holtz Inspired Vintage Triptych Canvases

I created these 3 small canvases while away at a retreat quite a few months ago.

They have a lovely vintage feminine feel.

They measure 6 x 6 inches & are decorated using tons of Tim Holtz, Prima Marketing Products 

& Imaginarium Chipboard.

The backgrounds were made using Matt Crackle Paste through the Mosaic Layering Stencil.

The cracks & textures accentuated by brushing with Vintage Photo Distress Spray Stain
& Bronze Age Art Alchemy Wax.

Once dry the layers of Ephemera were clustered together.

I used the Ideaology Vintage Ephemera Packs, Botanical & Vellum as well as Thrift Shop 

& some pieces from Prima Marketing, die cut flourishes & Imaginarium Chipboard
over cotton gauze. Coloured with Brushed Pewter & Aged Brass Metallic Distress Stains.

Paper Clay miniature frames, Sizzix Die Cut Angel Wings & Ornate Frame 2 

layered with Tim Holtz Paper Dolls 

formed the main accents on each canvas.

The Angel Wings were embossed using the Tile Texture Fade.

All the Layered Textures were brought forward by rubbing the surfaces with Prima  Finnabair
Art Alchemy Metallique Waxes in Vintage Gold & Aged Brass.

I have kept them to decorate my Grand Mother's Vintage Sewing Machine

at the entrance of our home.

I cannot believe I haven't created any posts on this blog for nearly 12 months.

Since HobbySew Echuca (Craft Shop) closed down and my Creative Team duties over, 

I have been attending lots of workshops for my own enjoyment.

Lavinia Stamps I have a slight addiction!!!

Hi All,

I had to share my next set of whimsical cards 

featuring Lavinia Stamps,  a Prima Fairy stamp & a Concord & 9th Unicorn stamp. 

The cool backgrounds were created using various Distress Inks on a Gell Press Plate.

My Gell Plate still had some spots of paint
which added to the texture of the 'Planet' & the Background.

This gorgeous Fairy is perfect over a Brayered & Stamped Distress Ink Background
directly to the Gell Plate.
This gives that lovely soft impression to the background layers.

I had to picture her in close up!

Another dreamy background that I left quite plain as the colours look so lovely.

Combining same techniques with Prima Fairy stamp this time.
The Background card was tapped onto the Gell Plate after pulling the initial background.
This gives those striped effects which are quite cool.

My second pull of colour from the Gell Plate was really subtle
so I added a bright sun & Unicorn from Concord & 9th.

This gorgeous fairy stands alone on patterned paper
 with her wings & background accents twinkling.
They were heat embossed with Opalescent powder.
Older Tim Holtz die cuts & diamante brads complete this simple card.

Hard to see but background font, sprinkles, & wings all twinkle.

This was another interesting background from the Gell Press Plate.

I am amazed how different these cards can look depending on the colour & technique
used for the backgrounds.

Gell Press & Lavinia Stamps Card Play

Hi All,

I have been having lots of fun experimenting with my 

Gell Press Printing Plate & Lavinia Stamps

to make a variety of Whimsical Cards.

I recently bought some Lavinia Stamps from Paperific in Melbourne

featuring silhouettes of Fairies & Unusual Plant Images.

I was really intrigued by the examples they had on display that included

beautiful backgrounds with a glowing moon & misty hills & foliage.

The first card I made had a misty background made from Distress Oxide Inks & water.

The images were stamped in Versamark Ink & White Heat Embossed.

Tim Holtz Wildflower thinlits die used to accent with Glossy Accents for shine.

After doing a bit of research on You Tube & Pinterest.

I tried to recreate some of the techniques in my own style. 

The Gell Press Plate I used still had paint on it from a previous project, 

so I used Acrylic Paints (from Jane Davenport) to try to lift the remaining paint off.

I absolutely love the way that these backgrounds turned out on  6x6" white cardstock.

I cut a circle from Copy Paper to mask off the Moon above.

It looked so beautiful when I lifted it off, that I applied it to the next card

to form a gorgeous Moon image. See Below...

I then tried to lift the stubborn paint by doing a full print on an A4 page.

This resulted in the very cool image I have below

which suited these stamped images.

I am going to call this 'Morning Has Broken'

& will probably frame it eventually.

Once my Gell Press was 'clean' I started trying out Distress Ink & Archival Ink backgrounds 

applied directly to the Gell Plate with a brayer & Stamps.

These effects were much more subtle, but still really cool!

The Fairies silhouetted by stamping with black Archival Ink.

 Totally different effects were achieved when stamping direct to paper (above)

or onto the Gell plate itself as below. 

Liquid Pearls & opalescent glitter 

added to the Moon & dotted on card added a hint of shine.

Subtle effects on the stones painted with Art Alchemy Opal Magic paints.

These effects don't show up in the photos very well, but look very special in real life.

I have lots more examples in the process of being designed.  

I am improving from these early examples in layering the foreground & backgrounds.

I stamped some beautiful sentiments inside these cards.

I felt they didn't generally need anything written on the front.

Altered Book Finnabair Inspired

I wanted to share this cool Vintage Altered Book that I have made 

inspired by Finnabair's online class "Book of Transformation"

Above you can see all the many pieces that have been added to the cover 

using Heavy Body Gel medium from the Art Basics product line.

Some pieces are paper clay others are metal mechanicals & findings.  

Buttons, lace, crackle medium, art stones & ideaology flowers were also used.

The back cover was simply wiped with crackle medium to enhance it's Vintage style.

The magic occurs when Art Alchemy paints & Waxes are applied over a White Gesso base coat.

A dry brush technique & your 'finger' are the best tools for the job.

The colours selected helped the Transformation to blend with the original bookcover.

I combined the Art Alchemy paint colours of Green Olive Metallique & Steampunk Copper.

The Waxes used were a combination of Lucky Emerald, Bronze Age, Vintage Silk & Green Brocade.

The shine on this piece is really lovely & it has lots of depth with the various tones.
