MINI ALBUM - 'Make Life So Sweet' Simple Stories, Jillibean Soup & Tim Holtz Distress Crayons

It was made as a project for the

HOBBYSEW ECHUCA CREATIVE TEAM

The Summer Red Raspberry Soup Paper Collection Pack from Jillibean Soup 

& Distress Crayons from Tim Holtz inspired me to make this 

bright, fun album.

The Album is a 6 x 8"  SN@P Binder from Simple Stories.

The vibrant colours made me immediately think of making a light, bright Album that I will give as a gift to my Sister in Law to display photos of her Grandchildren.

I will comment on the other products I used as I write this tutorial.

Most of the products used are readily available from HOBBYSEW ECHUCA.

I have included lots of photos, so this is quite a long post.

For the Base of the Album I chose to use a 6x8 SN@P Binder in Yellow & Kraft from Simple Stories.

These binders are very sturdy & come with 3 thick kraft divider pages as well as an assortment of plastic pocket pages & other base pages.

To start decorating the cover of the Album I masked off the Yellow Canvas Binder with 3M blue painters tape & applied a layer of Prima Art Basics White Gesso with my new Texture Brush from Finnabair & Prima Marketing.

The cover was then coloured using the bright set of Distress Crayons from Ranger & Tim Holtz. 

I smeared on stripes of the crayons in a Rainbow pattern, overlapping the colours slightly.

I used my finger to blend the colours.  

As the crayons dried out on the surface the pigment was harder to move.  

It was necessary to just moisten my finger tip with a baby wipe or to dip finger in a small amount of water to get the pigment to move.

If it became too wet, the pigment was diluted & rubbed off.

I suggest working on a small area at a time.

Add more pigment as necessary to give a deep rich colour.

They glide on softer than lipstick.

Stencils from Wendy Vecchi (dots & stripes) & Studio Calico (circle mesh) were used to create a Tie Dyed effect over the rainbow coloured background.

This was achieved by wiping away the colour through the stencil with a moist (not too wet) baby wipe to reveal the white gesso layer underneath.

My fifteen year old son is very into Tie Dye effects at the moment. Might have to use this effect on some backgrounds for cards as well.

Once I was happy with the effect I lightly sprayed the cover with a Sealer to protect the surface.

To finish the cover I layered die cuts from the collection above with Prima Flowers.

The Tim Holtz Sizzix Bigz Die Postage Frame was cut from Thick Foam sheet & sprayed with Perfect Pearls mist from Ranger. (I love the way it cracked & appears to be sunk into the cover)

The sentiment in the frame is from the collection pack.  

It is covered with an acetate sheet to appear as if under glass.

The blue ribbon & the bike die cut are from my stash. 

Pieces adhered with Prima Art Basics Soft Matte Gel, Double sided tape & foam squares.

The inside dividers were masked off  about 1" in from the edge & coloured with distress inks.

The tape peeled away some of the kraft paper when I removed it.  This was easily fixed by attaching a strip of patterned paper to each divider.

The Summer Red Raspberry Soup Collection Pack contained all the papers that I used inside the Album combined with some kraft cardstock from my stash & pages included with the SN@P Album.

The Collection pack also includes Journaling cards, Font sticker sheets, & Die cuts that were used throughout to decorate the Album. 

I repeated the use of the frame & ribbon from the front cover on the first few pages of the Album 

to add some continuity.

I alternated the double sided papers & made various flaps & pockets to add interest to the pages.

A scallop border punch was used on a few different pages as well.

 

All of the pages coordinate so can be made up in any style you choose.

Hi There Visitors,

I live about 2 hours away, but have been over to shop & attend workshops quite a few times.

One of the products I was given to showcase was a collection paper pack by Jillibean Soup.

The bright colourful papers from the Summer Red Raspberry Soup Pack were perfect for my 

EASTER PROJECT.

Thanks to Emma Williams for the Inspiration for the Easter Egg Hunt sign.

Can you see the Bunnies? They are camouflaged...

A bucket was needed to collect all the eggs!

I die cut all the pieces for this project with my Big Shot. The dies were as follows:

Sizzix Tim Holtz  Bigz Dies -Tattered Florals, Garden Greens & Word Play. 

Sizzlits Strip Dies - 'Rosettes', 'Bow Tied' & 'Tattered Flower Garland'

The bucket has been repurposed.  It is plastic & once contained alcohol wipes used at my work.

I coloured the edges of lid & handle with a Ranger Acrylic Paint Dabber (Speckled Egg)

The base paper is by Cherry Arte - Any blue dot paper would do.

The base of the Arrow & the sentiments are die cut from gloss white thick cardstock.

The green leaves are cut from Heidi Swapp paper.

Brads used for the centre of the flowers are from my stash.

The bucket & bunnies are decorating my dining table till they can be used on Easter Sunday.

COFFEE STAINING

Hi all,

I have made this project to try to stretch my mixed media muscles a little....

I am inspired by the Mixed Media Place blog.

This months challenge Exercise # 17 in the Creative Gym is to use 'Coffee' in your project as a medium. This is my entry.

I was really inspired by one of the Design Team (thanks Janka)

She combined purple & blue with the brown coffee colour.

The combination is perfect. Her journal pages are awesome!

In my journal I had swiped some purple & turquoise izink on an empty page after finishing another project, so had a base of the colours I wanted to combine with coffee brown.

Over this base I swiped on Prima Heavy Gesso using the new Prima Texture Brush & Tools. 

This absorbed the colours & lightened the page. 

I next applied Art Basics Light Modelling Paste through the Tim Holtz Dot stencil.

Then the Harlequin stencil was used with Gathered Twigs & Antique BronzeDistress Spray Stains.

I mixed Mini Art Stones with Light Sand Texture paste & swiped through a Finnabair stencil.  Randomly applied more Art Stones & mini Art Stones over surface with Prima Soft Matte Gel.

Brewed coffee was then dripped over project which gave the lighter brown colour.

Love how the project smells!

Espresso paint dabber was used for highlights & splatters of all colours used.

The letters were stamped on thin cardboard with Coffee Archival Ink, cut out and applied with 3D matte gel as the surface was very textured.

Rock candy Distress Crackle was applied to the letters & randomly across the page giving a slightly shiny wet look in areas.

I Love the randomly spread mini art stones & the way they have absorbed the coffee & ink.

ELIXIR OF MUSE using Alcohol Inks & Tissue Paper Stamping

Hi All.  Thanks for stopping by for a look at my latest project.

I have always wanted to make these 'glass' Apothecary Bottles 

& to label them

with these wonderful stamps of Wendy Vecchi's.

 

I wanted lots of layers on this project (some very subtle)

I am entering this project in the 'Layers' Challenge

The bottles are cut from acetate & coloured with various Alcohol Inks,

so remain translucent.

I wanted the base under the bottles to be textured with Crackle Paste. 

I didn't know how I could stamp the images so they could be read clearly 

& the crackle not covered up. 

Thanks to a recent post on 'One Lucky Day' I realised this was easily solved.

Paula Cheney Tissue Wrap Experimentation

I made my first video which I have still attached below showing my creative process.

Lets just say I have to sort out some issues with resolution etc.

So I have come back today to include some photos of  the techniques used.

I started with a 6 x 6" piece of cardboard which I peeled at the edges to distress slightly.

I then applied a thin layer of Gold Embossing Paste (which dried very quickly) 

& then applied a thin uneven layer of Crackle Embossing Paste.

Let this air dry for best Crackle Effect.

I stamped my images on White Tissue Paper & the labels on Cardstock with Archival Ink

I cut out or tore the tissue paper around my stamping.

The torn edges allow the stamped paper to disappear into the background when applied to surface with Soft Matte Gel.

I die cut the Apothecary Bottles & feathers from Acetate Packaging & the birds from Cardstock.

I also cut the Small Easel stand from Cardboard.

All the Acetate pieces were coloured with layers of Alcohol Inks.

The birds were randomly stamped & coloured with Alcohol Ink as well.

I made two projects as I loved this technique so much.

The first I mounted using a worn antique frame.

The other I will give as a gift.  

I attached a stand made from the Easel Die from Sizzix so it will stand by itself.

I have included this video showing some of the processes I used.

This is the first video I have made so please be kind! 

I am very pleased with the end results & discovering this process.

Finnabair Inspired 3D Canvas

Absolutely loving this Floral 3D composition on Canvas.

A flat canvas 8 x 10" was primed with White Gesso.  Wendy Vecchi white embossing paste was applied through a Harlequin Stencil in random areas.

Embellishments were applied to the canvas with Prima Art Basics- Soft Matte Gel & 3D Gel to form a central arrangement on the canvas.

As you can see these included Paper Flowers, Lace, Canvas Strips, Die cut flowers & Leaves, old wallpaper scraps, buttons, & metal jewellery & findings from Prima & Tim Holtz.

The whole arrangement was painted with White Gesso & then (as I forgot) Prima Art Ingredients like Glass Glitter, Glass Beads & Micro Beads were applied with soft matte gel.

They add lots of extra texture. 

 When dry I covered all with another coat of White Gesso.

It is a bit daunting when you are faced with the totally white canvas. Where do I begin?

I decided to use hot colours across the top & cooler colours to appear to come from underneath.

The hot colours were Prima Art Ingredients - Mica Powders in the colours of Lipstick, Tangerine & Gold Opal Magic.

The cool colours were Deep Water, Rust & Teal.

These powders were sprinkled on in areas then sprayed with water. Let blend & drip.

The result was very shiny & bright.

I shaded areas with Luminarte Hunter Grey Powder mixed with water & applied with a paintbrush. Splatters of Black & White Gesso were flicked across the canvas.

Highlights were applied with Luminarte Primary Elements, Emperor's Gold.

The canvas looks perfect displayed in this very worn gilded frame that my husband inherited.  

I have it now hanging in my lounge room.  It goes very well with our dark antique furniture.

I have quite a few more of these type of frames - Looking forward to more ideas to create & display in these.
