Platinum UTEE 21st Card

I recently made this 6 x 6 Trifold card for a musical friend for his 21st Birthday.

I love the drama of the Tim Holtz 'David' stamp, the Wendy Vecchi Archival Reinker & Alcohol                                                      background and the UTEE heat embossed 21.

The Background was made on Specialty Stamping Paper.
I used a few drops of Aquamarine & Coffee Reinkers & Rubbing Alcohol
with one drop of Pearl Alcohol Ink.
The Tim Holtz Stamps were Stamped in Jet Black Archival & Clear Heat Embossed.
The face was masked off then the Tim Holtz Web Stencil was used with Antique Linen & Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

The 21 & the ink splotch were made using Tim Holtz Stencils.  A mixture of platinum and clear UTEE was applied with the embossing dabber through the stencil & melted with a heat gun.

Random Music stamps were added with Watering can Archival Ink. The Card base is Coredinations Cracked Kraft Cardstock. Matting with kraft card stamped with Cracked pattern.

I went a bit crazy using UTEE over all sorts of stamping.

These two were over Tarnished Brass and Pewter Distress Stain.
Love this mottled effect.

February Make Art Challenge - HEARTS

On the Make Art Challenge Blog they celebrate all things Wendy Vecchi.
For the month of February the Challenge is "HEARTS"

Thanks to the Funkie Junkie Boutique for sponsoring a prize.

I made a wall plaque as a home decor piece.

I started with a chipboard base, over which I smeared a random thin layer of Metallic Gold embossing paste with a palette knife (which dries almost immediately)
Over this I spread a layer of Crackled Texture Paste. Varying the thickness & coverage.
The photo below is of another piece I covered at the same time but it gives the general idea.
Leave to dry overnight for the best crackle finish.

The Gold embossing paste shines through the cracks and areas thinly covered with crackle.
The size of the cracks vary with the thickness of the Crackled Texture Paste.
Wendy has a video demoing this technique at CHA 2014 by ScrapTime Videos.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FiHXorDKoo

The Lace background stamp was applied with Black Archival Ink with the center masked out with a circle cut from scrap typing paper.
Makes a 'fancy spotlight frame' as Wendy describes this technique on her blog.
http://studio490art.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/custom-background-stamps-ruler-stamping.html

The Lace border Stamp from Beauty of Art set was stamped in Vermilion Archival on the top & bottom of the piece.
Mesh background Stamp randomly applied with Watering can Archival Ink

The background was colored using Wendy Vecchi Sunray & Tim Holtz Flourish Stencils & various Archival Inks (Cornflower Blue, Dandelion & Sap Green) (Orange Blossom & Dandelion) with a finger dauber sponge.
Scattered Straw & Tumbled Glass Distress Inks also lightly rubbed over to bring out the crackle finish.

The Heart Embellishment was made from Corrugated cardboard covered with strips of Tim Holtz Tissue Tape & then cut out.
Colored with Cornflower Blue Archival Ink & sprayed with Biscotti Perfect Pearls Mist.

The Small Rosette was diecut from Graphic 45 papers.
Gold Embossing paste was used through Wendys stencils to add the row of stars to the heart & the larger star to the rosette.
Once dry the edges of the plaque, the rosette & the heart were all swiped with Tarnished Brass Distress Stain to match the Gold Embossed stars.

The Sentiment was stamped in black Archival ink & clear heat embossed. The words are a combination from various Studio 490 stamp sets.
The wire came from my stash & was shaped by coiling around a pen.  The butterfly was a wooden laser cut colored with archival ink, & finally added some of Tim Holtz's Linen Ribbon.

I really loved the backgound technique used in this piece. I found it hard to cover it up. Wanted to leave most of it exposed.  Lots of texture. Really fun to make.

Thanks for taking the time to read.  Hope you are inspired to try some of these techniques too.

Wendy Vecchi Inspired Journal.

Hi Readers,

I loved the way this Wendy Vecchi inspired piece turned out, so I had to turn it into something I will use every day.      So I made it into a journal. Hope you like it too.

The Make Art Challenge Blog is running a Monthly Challenge.  # 1  being to use Embossing Paste and at least one Wendy Vecchi Product.

I wanted to share the journal I had so much fun creating below & enter in this challenge.

The link to the challenge is: http://makeartchallengeblog.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/make-art-challenge-1-embossing-paste.html

Wendy has fantastic descriptions of techniques on her blog, Studio 490.  So worth reading back through her posts. You will love it.
I started the background of this project on Specialty Stamping Paper. I used Wendy's Archival Reinker Background Technique using Rubbing Alcohol, Fern Green, Aquamarine & Coffee Archival Reinkers & a drop of gold alcohol ink.      I traced the inner circle with a charcoal pencil.

I swiped randomly around the edges of the page with Studio 490 Crackle Texture Paste & left to dry overnight.  I rubbed over frayed burlap distress ink & wiped off to show up the cracks.

I covered a piece of Clearly for Art with random torn pieces of music paper & old dictionary paper. Applied with gel medium.  When dry, I cut out the flower & leaves using Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Florals & Garden Greens die.  I applied Archival Ink colours with foam applicators. I heated & shaped the pieces. They are so sturdy.  I stamped the bird & sentiment with Black Archival Ink before clear heat embossing.

Stencilling was done with Archival inks & finger dauber sponges. Red Lead & Studio 490 stencils used.  Gold Embossing paste used for the stars. Love the lace stamped edge with Wendy's stamp & Watering can Archival Ink.
Tim Holtz Lattice Framework die cut used.

The back cover was made later. Gorgeous sentiments using Wendy's Stamps. The flying birds are cut from kraft core cardstock with Sizzix strip die & sanded.

I just love the texture and depths using Wendy's products & techniques create.

I  mounted front & back pages on thick black cardboard.  The edges are swiped with Tarnished Brass Distress Stain. Clear UTEE heat embossed over this. Holes punched etc.

So Glad you could stop by & share my Wendy Vecchi Inspiration.
Cheers Debbie Adams

PS: Wendy's new release of products at CHA 2015 are fantastic!!  Shame I live in Australia, postage from the USA curbs my spending for the moment.

JUST BE FREE - art therapy

Hi there,

I am slowly getting more confident using this blog & posting about my creations. It is so freeing to be able to share your creativity.  Thanks to those who take the time to read this.

I created this next piece on a piece of packaging. An ice cream box to be precise.  The colour & weight of the cardboard was appealing and I never throw anything away that might be useful!!

This is what I started with....(on the other side)

The background was layered up using Faber Castell Whipped Spackle through the Tim Holtz Chevron Stencil & random strips of prima papers including the Prima printed canvas crisscrossed.  Prima font stickers were applied randomly to give more texture as well as crackle texture paste applied with a spatula.

Various Sizzix die cuts were then layered over the background.  (Trellis Frameworks die, Birds in flight & Tattered Lace strip die, Twigs on the edge die, Garden Greens die, Bird Branch die, Mini Feather & Ink well Mover & Shaper die.

Tim Holtz Alpha Parts were used for the Title. The Rusty house was from my stash, & other metal flower embellishments added & part of a Prima flower. Applied with Helmar 450 quick dry adhesive & Heavy Gel Medium.
All these layers were roughly brushed with a layer of Gesso and dried.

Colour applied to the surface with various Lindy Stamp Gang sprays (mostly Flat Fabios) which give a lovely chalky almost pastel finish. Allow the colours to blend & drip.

Touches of white gesso applied to highlight the flower petals & slightly watered white gesso droplets flicked in different areas.  Small prima text and texture stamps used to create more interest.
Shading around text, birds, flowers etc done by applying the darker sprays with a brush straight from spraying the craft sheet.

I intend to frame this piece.  It is an odd shape so I will have to make my own frame.  Will post a photo when complete.  Sorry I didn't take photos along the way.  I am amazed what can be created from scraps.
Cheers for now,  Debbie Adams

GIFT FROM THE HEART

Hi There,

I wanted to share a project I created for a Kris Kringle gift for one of my workmates.
The necklace was made from Vintaj copper products & some beautiful copper & green beads from my stash.
I re purposed a Toblerone chocolate box as a gift box. It displays the necklace perfectly, and is pretty enough to sit on a shelf to display on it's own.

The papers I used were from Prima A4 Printery Collection. The Sizzix Ornate Frame was cut from scrap white cardboard & coloured with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain.
Text was randomly inked over this with Black Archival Ink. Dried with heat tool, then randomly swiped with embossing ink dabber & clear UTEE applied & heat set.
I love this effect. It bubbles & looks so dimensional and aged.

The girl stamp is from Artistic Outpost (Flower Market) over Pewter Distress Stain Background. Black Archival Ink of course.
Flower & leaves were made using the sizzix pinecone die & Autumn gatherings sizzix strip die.

Edges were finished off with Tim Holtz Tissue Tape.

I am entering this gift in the Frilly & Funkie Challenge "Gift from the Heart" over on the Frilly & Funkie Boutique Blog.
The link to this challenge is as follows:

Altered Tattered & Time Worn November Sketch Challenge: XMAS CARD

Hi All,

Have been absent for a few weeks due to Family commitments.

Glad for the ATT November Sketch Challenge to encourage more creative play.
Wanted to make something with a Xmas Theme.

I would like to show some of my creative process.  Some parts working well, other parts not so well, but experimenting & learning achieved.

The paper used is from the Tim Holtz Merriment Paper Stash.  The background rectangle made me think of a brick hearth. So I stencilled with Wendy Vecchi's brick stencil with a mixture of embossing paste, spray stains & 2 different dry glitters as shown below.

I left the surface rough. Love the way this turned out.  Slight glitter visible. Dry with heat tool.

Cut shelf for hearth from same papers just with stripe going opposite. Popped up with foam strip.
Applied Clear Crackle Paste & Rock Candy Dry Glitter mix through Tim Holtz Gothic stencil above & below the hearth as inspired by the sketch.

Applied it quite thickly so it would crackle nicely. It dried ok on the paper sections but absorbed some of the red colour where applied over the bricks. (Distress spray stain used on them) I get the reason why.  Applied text sticker by Heidi Swapp for the sentiment and left to dry overnight.

For the vertical stripes on the Sketch I chose to hang stockings across the hearth. They were stamped with black archival on white card stock. Slightly shaped by rounding over a fine paintbrush handle. Applied with pop dots & given a coat of glossy accents.  The stamp set used was by Mickey Choo.

The hearth clock and other embellishments were made up from pieces in my stash.  I swiped the stencilled and embossed areas with brushed pewter distress stain to make the crackle stand out.  It actually looks like snow.  I know that I can use this combination for a snow scene in another project.

The card was trimmed and layered on black cardstock then on beautiful embossed paper from House of 3 (Heidi Swapp) from my stash. Corresponding Heidi Swapp sticker applied to inside of card.  Her font is just beautiful & these slightly raised stickers were perfect for this.

Will make this card again using pewter embossing paste with the Gothic stencil.  Think that will give the effect that I was after.  My experiment has led to a recipe for fake snow anyway.
I am embracing the imperfection.  It adds texture & sparkle.

Thanks for Stopping by....Deb
