Fortune Teller Travel Collection Folio

'NOT ALL WHO WANDER ARE LOST'

This Travel Album was designed using the beautiful Papers, Ephemera & Chipboard Shapes from 7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller Collection.

The foundation of the Album is the Large Collection Folio from Tim Holtz.

The Mixed Media Cover was created in layers & is quite textured & dimensional.

I am entering this project in the Monday Challenge over at the Simon Says Stamp Blog

"Add Some Texture" as it really covers the Challenge Topic both inside & out.

 Here are the steps of my creative process for the cover of the Folio:-

 I firstly applied the desired papers from the collection to the front & insides of the kraft Folio
with wide double sided tape. 

I applied Tim Holtz Tissue Tape randomly to the edges of the Folio before shading
with Ground Espresso Distress Paint & Deco Art Antiquing Cream in Patina Green.

The edges of the Folio were roughened with the Prima Distress Tool, swiped with the 

Embossing Dabber & heat embossed with a mixture of Clear & Platinum UTEE. 

This same UTEE mixture was heat embossed on the Turquoise Cover using the Ranger Embossing Dabber & the matching Fortune Teller Stamp Set.

A Tim Holtz word band was coloured with Distress Crayons in blue & white highlighting the words.

All of the rest of the layers were designed around the cluster under the lovely Gypsy Image.

This included torn and cut papers from the collection, Tim Holtz Sizzix die cuts 

(writing desk feather, mini labels, pediments), Chipboard Trellis & Swirls from 7 dots Studio, 

Prima Art Stones & Mini Art Stones, a badge from the Collection, & sequin buttons from my stash.

The Chipboard Trellis was coloured with Lumiere Pewter Paint, the Swirls with 

Prima Art Alchemy Metallique Paint Steampunk Copper.  

Extra Texture added to the layers with text stamping with Black Archival Ink. 

Fine splatters of these paints & Goosebumps spray finish off the cover.

The inside of the Folio was decorated to be a Travel Album of time spent in New Zealand.

 I have made a video that gives peeks of the many Album pages and pockets formed within the Folio.

Not sure if my video will work or not so I have included some photos of the inside pages of the Folio.

Turquoise & Steampunk Copper Art Alchemy Metallique Paint was also used to highlight the Chipboard, Frames & Die Cuts used within the Album.

Acetate Windows & lots of Tabs & Tickets create extra interest.

Stamping & Stencilling add interest to the Kraft pages.

Same colours & Vintage feel throughout.

 

The Album actually looks really cool displayed on the side table at home 

& so has become a piece of Home Decor.

Iron Orchid Designs - Paper Clay & Vintage Art Decor Molds

Paper Clay is a modelling material which can be used

 to create gorgeous vintage style Home Decor Projects.

I thought I would start with something small, repurposing some plain glass candle stick holders.

This technique could be applied to any surface that you desire to alter 

eg.  boxes, wood furniture, frames, glass jars or vases just to name a few.

 I recommend watching a few You Tube Videos to get some handy hints before you start.

I will share a few of the hints I discovered here for you.

For this Project I gave each glass holder a light coat of Prima Chalk Board Paint (Egg Shell) 

& let dry while I pressed the Paper Clay into the Vintage Art Decor Mold (Baroque 3).

Hint: Keep the spare clay in an airtight container so it doesn't dry out.

I recommend planning a few projects to use it up quickly & avoid it being unusable if it dries out.

Hint: Press the clay into the mold with your fingers.  

Ease it away at the edges of the moulded shape & Peel the rubber mold away 

while the clay is still moist. (within 5 to 10 minutes)

The molded piece of clay can then be immediatedly applied to the desired surface using glue.

I used 3D Matte Gel from Prima Art Basics & Finnabair.

Applying the paper clay while still moist allows the piece to shape & bend 

to suit the surface it is being applied to. 

Even if the piece of paper clay has cracks or breaks in it, just glue it together.  

It all adds to the Vintage feel!

Hint:  On my first attempt I let the clay dry in the IOD Molds, but found that the shapes were brittle & hard to remove from the moulds.  The ones I did manage to get out of the molds would not conform to suit any surface either.

So after molding each shape, I glued them onto the three holders before leaving for a while to dry.

I also applied some Prima Art Stones & Mini Art Stones with Soft Matte Gel 

from Prima Art Basics to add more texture.

I was impatient, so I gently patted on a medium layer of Clear Crackle Texture Paste 

from Prima Art Extravagance over the whole surface of the holder around the Clay shapes.

I then left them to dry overnight.

The next day I dry brushed over the whole surface with Prima Chalk Board Paint (Charcoal).

I also lightly dry brushed with Prima Art Alchemy Paints 

in Metallique Rice Turquoise & Steampunk Copper.

I finished each piece with a coat of Distress Collage Medium (Crazing) to give a final texture layer.

The Textured Surface has been beautifully highlighted by the dry brushing.

I think they look quite unique, especially displayed All in a Row.

For this reason I am entering this project in the Frilly & Funkie Boutique Blog Challenge

All Lined Up  

I hope this inspires some Home Decor Creativity.

Red Raspberry Soup Collection - using Scraps for Cards

After making the 'Life so Sweet' Album with this Paper Collection as a HobbySew Echuca Creative Team Project I had a few left over paper scraps.

I have used these to make cards for Mother's Day & other Occasions.

 I combined the papers above with the Jillibean Soup 12 x 12 Circle Placemat DieCut

& some diecut words & alphas from the collection.

Small scraps can be used to make diecut flowers & leaves, 

or use your puches to cut out shapes like circles or hexagons for a patchwork effect. 

Combine these sweet paper designs with the diecut flowers & Tim Holtz Sizzix Frames,

& then nothing from the Collection is wasted.

Most of  these products are readily available from HobbySew Echuca.

Hope this gives you some inspiration to use up some paper scraps.

THE ROYAL TREATMENT on MOTHER'S DAY

Hi I have been making some Mother's Day Cards over the last few weeks.

I thought this one was a little quirky & wanted to share.

I have used the Sizzix Pop n Cuts Die with the Multi Tier Insert 

this allowed me to layer the Sentiment & the Crown.

I have used other tags & embellishments from the Pink Paislee London Market Collection.

I think the papers are from Authentique

Very suitable for someone's Mother's Day.

Not mine though.

I spent the morning watching Soccer in the Rain, but my son scored a Mother's Day goal.

They equalized but didn't win but I am very proud of him.

These are my cheery flowers and chocolates from the day.

Happy Mother's Day to those with us still & those in our Cherished Memories.

CHANGE TAKES COURAGE Upcycled Cardboard into Art

In honor of EARTH DAY April 22nd 2016

I have made this Upcycled Cardboard into a Wall hanging.

I am entering this in the It's not Easy Being Green Challenge 

on the Frilly & Funkie Challenge Blog

A girlfriend saved this piece of thick cardboard that had been part of a memo board 

& gave it to me to transform into something beautiful.

It already had a great colour & woven texture on the base.  

I covered up some marks with packing tape & papillon tissue tape was applied in random areas.

I punched some holes with my Crop-a-dile & made a hanger from Curled silver wire.

The butterfly was die cut & embossed from another piece of thick cardboard packaging
using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Layered Butterfly Die & Embossing Folder.
Coloured with distress Inks & then clear heat embossed on the raised areas.

Wendy Vecchi Silver embossing paste was used randomly through the Gothic Layering Stencil from
Tim Holtz & swiped around the edges of the piece.
The embellishment was custom made from my stash of wire & beads.

Tumbled Glass Distress Ink spray was applied to background & let drip down the stencil.

Purple Gelato was rubbed into the background sparingly & fine splatters over surface.

The sentiments were stamped onto Tissue paper with Black Archival ink twice each.
I used the first generation stamping for the main sentiment (Change takes Courage)
& 2nd generation for the Believe & Artist descriptions, which look much softer.

I tore closely around the edge of the stamped images then applied them with soft matte gel.
Much easier than worrying about trying to stamp on an uneven surface.

The butterfly is sturdy & is only attached with glue along the body. The wings sit up beautifully. 

I really love the way this turned out.
The message is very significant for myself & for the Challenge.
